Giving Thanks

If I were to begin to list all the things I am thankful for, surely I would miss someone or something, and the list would be long. So long in fact, I'd probably be sitting at this computer all day long. And so perhaps I will just summarize my thoughts into a couple of categories. I am thankful for good health, the wonderful people God has put into my life, and the gift of life itself. With these things, the sky is the limit, and there is good cause to celebrate Thanksgiving and the other 364 days of the year, too!

When I think of gathering at Mom's house for Thanksgiving, my memory takes me back to my childhood. It was the traditional goal to be all finished with field work and have the machinery washed up and back into the machine shed by this holiday. The food I remember above all at Thanksgiving, and still my favorite dishes today are Mom's homemade dressing and her pumpkin pie. We ate quickly, did the dishes quickly, and gathered in the living room for the great Christmas name exchange! This was one of the biggest moments of the year, filled with the thrill and excitement of whose name you might draw, and/or fearful dread that you might draw the person whom no one knew what to buy...and it really didn't matter anyway, because no matter what you would buy them, they wouldn't like it! Thankfully for me, I choose to embrace the real meaning of Christmas, so I really didn't put a lot of stock into this event, other than enjoying everyone's facial expressions as they opened their little piece of paper to see who they'd drawn!

Well, back to the holiday on hand...my love and thanks goes out to my terrific family and friends for sharing in my walk through life. (My staff is included in this message - they have become my family and friends as well!) I wish you a warm home, with a big table around which to gather with lots of good food and fellowship - with those you love on this Thanksgiving Day!

Thanks for reading....
